I found this item in an alley behind a large apartment building in my Glover Park Neighborhood of D.C. It was in perfectly good shape, but I figured I could take it up a notch. I cut a piece of pine lumber (leftover from another project) to form a base surface, primed it, painted the bottom semi-gloss black, and glued it under the frame with Liquid Nails. Then I used mastic and squarish white ceramic tile pieces leftover from another project to create a new design for the top. Amazingly, I only had to trim three of the small center triangle pieces; all the squarish tiles and the large central triangle worked great as is. I used a custom blend dark charcoal sanded grout and finished it with a grout sealer to protect against light moisture. The two original metal rings in the top are still showing but the four connecting straight pieces are hidden.
