We decided to put this in our second home. Dimensions: Length 35 inches, Width 13.25 inches, Height 23.25 inches, Weight 25 pounds. Middle shelf is 30 x 5.5 inches; bottom shelf is 32 x 7.25 inches. This distinctive piece could work well in a living room, den, office, or bedroom. I don’t know about you, but the profile of this piece vaguely reminds me of the written characters used in some Asian languages. Was asking $200.
I found a set of four nasty looking stools in an alley near my house in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. Actually, it was two sets of two very slightly different stools, two that had been painted an off-white and two that had been stained and varnished. Clearly, they’d been living outside for a long time. One had a broken leg that I decided not to try and mend, so I had three to upcycle, two alike and one slightly different. For this project I used the two stools that had been painted. First, I got rid of the tops. Then I prepared the stools by sanding the rough surfaces, applying a coat of primer spray paint, lightly sanding again, and finally applying two coats of black satin spray paint. For the top, I used a reclaimed wood shelving piece that I found in an a nearby alley. I cut away the concave curves in the four corners and cut new convex curves, then used a router to round off the four edges. I stripped and sanded away the original finish and applied a few new coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. For the middle and bottom shelves, I used a couple planks of oak newly purchased from Home Depot. I cut them to the desired sizes, sanded the surfaces and edges, and applied a few new coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. I attached all the shelfs to the stools with screws.
