I removed the shelves from inside an odd storage cabinet that is part of another upcycling project (only three of the original four were in good enough shape to reuse). I sanded and then painted them with one of my favorite go-to colors, a khaki-pale green (Benjamin Moore satin “Seaspray”). From my ever-changing stash of pallet wood, I chose a few boards with a natural tone that I thought would nicely complement the painted shelves and then trimmed the top edge of the boards with a curve that matches exactly the curve on the side of the shelves, and simply rounded off the bottom corners. The final shape reminds me of a bottle. I sanded the boards smooth, added one or two coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic, but lightly sanded to cut down on the sheen, and attached them to a thin wood backing piece with screws. Finally, I attached the shelves. It’s truly one of a kind.
