Sold. Dimensions: Length 48 inches, Width 16 inches, Height 16.75 inches, Weight 29 pounds. Seats two people very comfortably, can accommodate three. This one-of-a-kind piece, combining a rustic and industrial look, would provide great seating in a dining room, living room, mudroom, or den. The legs are ¾-inch black pipe—a product measured by its internal diameter; the external diameter is just over 1 inch. The flange “feet” are adjustable, which is great if the floor has any unevenness. $250.
The roots of this project are in a pine dining table that I found in an alley of the Burleith neighborhood of D.C. I had used the main, central part of the tabletop for another project (Coffee Table with Antique-Looking Round Metal Frame and Legs and Frame), which meant the fold-down leaves were leftover. I stripped and sanded away the original finish, and also sanded away the routed edge to create a simple, more rustic, and more comfortable rounded edge. Using furniture clamps, I glued the two pieces together, then applied a rich, dark stain to bring out the woodgrain, and finished off the bench with three coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. I used ¾-inch black pipe to construct a really strong, stable base that is appropriately scaled to the overall size of the piece. I hope the piece appeals to you as much as it does to me.
