I found this hinged three-piece wooden pet/baby gate in an alley near my house in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. It took me a while to figure out what to make of it until the simplest solution came to mind: three = triangle, and the height was already about perfect for a seat. I removed the hardware, trimmed three of the edges to the proper 60-degree angle—not so easy with just a circular saw—and assembled the triangle with glue and screws. After a coat of primer, I finished the base with a khaki-pale green paint, Benjamin Moore satin “Seaspray.” I cut the seat piece out of some medium density fiberboard leftover from another project and created the attached cushion with foam and fabric also left over from other projects. It’s a combination of pattern and color that I really like. I’ve never seen a seat like this, before, have you? That’s upcycling at its best.
