I found this table curbside a few blocks from my house in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. Given the poor condition of the top, I figure it might have been kept outside for some period of time but was structurally sound. Another diamond-in-the-rough, ready to be refinished and given new life. I fixed the broken dovetail joint on the drawer and stabilized the support structure, so it now opens and closes nicely. The paper lining in the drawer was in pretty good shape, so I retained that bit of original character. I used a belt sander and sandpaper to restore the top, then added a light stain and three coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. I painted the rails and legs one of my favorite colors, a khaki-pale green paint (Benjamin Moore satin “Seaspray”). The final product can bring a little character to your home, and it’s not so fussy that you’d be afraid to put your feet up on it.
